Behavioural Assessment – Cause and Effect
When I make my original assessment it is important to capture and record all the relevant information available. I discuss the issues with the client (including anyone who has contact and influence with the dog) and together we formulate a ‘Cause & Effect’ canine management diagram which gives us an immediate visual record of potential problem areas as in the example below:

Once the causes have been identified we can create an action plan to adjust or alleviate the unwanted behaviour, i.e. we can change the diet to reduce the effect of additives and excessive protein. This can have a calming effect on the dog.
We can introduce an exercise program to overcome boredom and burn off excess energy. This will also benefit the dog (and owner) in promoting general fitness and wellbeing. I demonstrate techniques to control the dog’s behaviour and teach them manners whilst building confidence in the owners handling ability.
Although, at times my techniques are robust I never cause pain or unnecessary suffering to dogs (or owners for that matter). I adapt my strategies and techniques to suit the individual dog and always ensure that owners can replicate what I have demonstrated.
I consider One 2 One training and behaviour management the best approach for many issues, because it can be tailor-made to suit dog, owner and circumstances, which is very difficult to apply in a class situation.
